Bill and Gord: Friends, Business Partners, Finger-Painting Enthusiasts
It all started in kindergarten. Seriously.
Bill and Gord, the Finer Edge partners, first met when they were five. While it’s tempting to wonder if the idea of a painting company originated during afternoon finger-painting, Finer Edge’s official founding came much later, in 1987. Originally, it started as a student painting operation spearheaded by Bill, who became the new company’s President.
Sensing that homeowners were demanding both high quality workmanship and exceptional customer service, Bill then transformed the business by bringing in top calibre tradesmen.
Gord, who had previously been an engineer and even men’s clothier, joined Bill as Finer Edge Vice President in 1996. They haven't looked back since, with literally thousands of homes and businesses under their belts.
So, what binds these two personalities together? A real passion for the business. A shared commitment to delivering on the best customer service.
And, of course, Ms. Davis’ kindergarten class. |

SHANE MAHONEY
PRODUCTION MANAGER
How long have you been with the Edge?
I’ve worked with Bill and Gord for 13 years now. I was a Biology Major and was working for them during the summer. Since then, I figure I’ve worked on over 2,000 homes!
Why do you love what you do?
It’s got to be the whole process of working with a customer to transform their homes. It’s incredibly gratifying – especially when you see that big smile on their faces at the end of the job.
How do you relax and kick back?
Playing with my kids whenever I can. But I’m also a big sports nut – I love watching sports, playing sports, and thinking about sports! |

PROJECT MANAGER
How long have you been with the Edge?
Like Shane, I’ve been with Finer Edge 13 years. Before joining, Gord had been working at the same company.
Why do you love what you do?
Delivering great customer service, especially when you’re in someone’s home, is very, very important. I strive to win the trust and confidence of every homeowner. I want them to know that their home is in good hands, and I’ll treat it like it was my own.
How do you relax and kick back?
You would think that after long days of working on other peoples’ homes, I’d want to take a break, but I love fixing stuff and doing handyman jobs around my home. |

LUI DIDOMIZIO
PROJECT MANAGER
How long have you been with the Edge?
I joined Finer Edge in the fall of 2008. Prior to that, I was a heating and cooling technician. I love the team Bill and Gord have put together, and the focus on quality and exceptional service. That’s the kind of stuff that makes or breaks a company.
Why do you love what you do?
I like meeting with our clients on a daily basis, getting their feedback to a job’s progress, and just ensuring they’re completely happy every step of the way. The biggest compliment in our business is getting referrals from satisfied homeowners – something, I’m proud to say, happens a lot at Finer Edge!
How do you relax and kick back?
Family and sports. Or is it sports and family? (Just kidding!) |

DOUG PENNY
PROJECT MANAGER
How long have you been with the Edge?
I’m officially the new kid on the block. I got the job mainly because the two owners, Bill and Gord, coerced me into it! Seriously, they were looking for someone who had a lot of management experience, and I fit the bill. Before joining Finer Edge, I was in the renovation business and even an Investment Advisor with RBC Dominion Securities. How’s that for a unique skill set!
Why do you love what you do?
The best part of my job is walking away at the end of a project and everyone is smiling. I know then that I’ve delivered on my promises of hassle-free service.
How do you relax and kick back?
It sometimes seems that I spend all of my free time chauffeuring my kids to and from their various activities! I do have one extravagance: in the dead of winter, I go to India for about a month. |

COLIN MCKENNA
PROJECT COORDINATOR
How long have you been with the Edge?
I joined Finer Edge about two years ago, but did painting stints with the company for several summers prior to joining them.
Why do you love what you do?
I enjoy meeting different people – you have to like working with people if you’re going to do well in this business. Customers can tell the difference. I guess the other area I enjoy is taking clients through every step of a job, so they understand all the who’s, what’s and where’s. Basically, eliminating all the surprises.
How do you relax and kick back?
It seems everyone at Finer Edge is sport-obsessed, and I’m no different. Hockey’s my game, but I’m also a musician in my spare time. |
